Jagannath Temple, Puri: About the temple: Jagannathji Literally means Lord of the Universe. Lord Jagannath is believed to be a manifestation of Lord Vishnu. The icon of Jagannath is a carved and decorated wooden stump with large round eyes and asymmetric face, and the icon has a conspicuous absence of hands or legs. The main deities of the temple are Lord Jagannatha, his elder brother Balabhadra and his younger sister Subhadra. The temple is mainly famous for its annual Rath Yatra which is celebrated in the month of June or July every year. This Rath yatra is purely dedicated to Lord Jagannath.
