Khatu Shyam Temple, Rajasthan Khatushyamji's temple, dedicated to Shyama baba is constructed of the famous Makrana marble & is situated in Sikar district of Rajasthan. Khatushyamji is considered to be the God of the Kaliyuga. The various points of attraction near the temple are Shyam Kund, Shyam Bagichi & Gourishankar Temple. Shyam Bagichi is yet another blessed garden near the temple from where the flowers are picked to be offered to the deity. Then is the Gauri Shankar Temple, a Shiva temple which is near Khatushyamji's temple. There is a legend that the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's soldiers wanted to destroy this temple, and attacked the Shiva Linga with a spear. Fountains of blood appeared from the Shiva Linga, and the soldiers ran away, terrified. The story related to the temple says that the main deity is a manifestation of Barbarik, son of Ghatotkacha grandson of Bhima. Even in his childhood, Barbarika was a very brave warrior. God Shiva, pleased with him, gave him the three infallible arrows (Teen Baan). Later, Agni (the god of Fire) gave him the bow that would make him victorious in the three worlds. When Barbarika got to know that battle between the Pandavas and the Kauravas had become inevitable, He promised his mother that if he felt the urge to participate in the battle, he would join the side which would be losing. Krishna disguised as a Brahmin knowing his phenomenal powers asked him his head in charity as the head of the bravest Kshatriya needs to be sacrificed, in order to worship/sanctify the battlefield. So he obliged & gave his head to Krishna. Krishna pleased with him gave him the boon that in Kaliyuga, he will be worshipped as Lord Shyama Baba, Krishna's own name in Kaliyuga. His devotees would be blessed just by pronouncing his name from the bottom of their hearts.
